Vancouver Craft Beer Week was named Social Event of the Year at the 2018 Golden Owl Awards. VCBW Festival Director, Leah Heneghan accepted the award on behalf of her business partners, Tyler Olson, Paul Kamon and Chris Bjerrisgaard, thanking the dedicated VCBW team and the entire craft beer community.
The awards took place on Monday, November 19 at the Harbour Convention Centre, where the hospitality industry came together in celebration of the leaders in their field, from popular establishments and events to the professionals that make them sing. Craft beer was flowing in the tasting room, featuring beer and cider from Persephone Brewing Company, Vancouver Island Brewing, Backcountry Brewing and Twin Sails Brewing, making the evening that much more special.
The Golden Owl Awards began as the Vancouver Nightlife Awards in 2004 and evolved in 2016 into a night dedicated to honouring Vancouver’s hospitality industry. The awards are unique in bringing many of Vancouver’s hospitality owners, managers and staff together. The Social Event of the Year category was created in 2016 and focuses on three ideas: fun, social and culture. The winning event isn’t a gathering based around an entertainer, rather the straightforward assembly of like-minded people that laugh, cry, and enjoy each other’s company more than their phone. VCBW has been nominated in this category three years in a row, taking home the honours for the first time in 2016, and the entire VCBW team is just thrilled to their festival is considered the best representation of this idea once again.
Everyone at VCBW would like to thank the voters and our amazing craft beer community!
