What began in 1914 as a local watering hole in the city’s oldest neighbourhood, Strathcona, The Patricia Café became one of the city’s music hotspots. Hosting many of the most influential entertainers of the early 20th century, The Patricia Café was a second home to the city’s working class and wealthy alike, where libations, camaraderie and lively conversation could be shared in the company of world class entertainers. Through the Great Depression, two World Wars and the changing landscape of downtown Vancouver, we have been a local institution and welcome reprieve from the outside world for nearly a century.
Re-establishing our roots as a cozy neighbourhood gathering place and live music venue, The Patricia Café became Pat’s Pub & BrewHouse and was one of the early pioneers in what is now a robust local craft beer community. With the installation of a new brewery in the basement of The Patricia Hotel, Pat’s Pub & BrewHouse doubled its brewing capacity in 2016 and re-branded as Hastings Mill Brewing Company. The name Hastings Mill Brewing Co is a nod to Strathcona’s history and Vancouver’s oldest building, first post office, library and community centre, the Old Hastings Mill General Store which originally sat at the bottom of Dunlevy Street for more than 60 years as the heart and soul of the Hastings Mill logging settlement.
Building on our gold medal success at the Canadian Brewing Awards in our first year as Hastings Mill Brewing Company, we continue to employ traditional techniques with our in-house staples such as Skid Road IPA, Bricktop Pale Ale and Pat’s Classic Lager while playing with innovative ideas and creative new flavour combinations. With four rotating in-house brews on tap at any given time and a collection of 16+ locally-sourced and carefully chosen microbrews, Hastings Mill Brewing Co has a collection of craft beers on hand that will impress even the most discerning craft beer enthusiast.
